TBI Services Success Stories

MEET GREG
Greg Rivera was struggling to get his life back together after he suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) while in the Army. A single father, Greg had been evicted from his apartment, leaving him homeless with four children. Denver Options immediately stepped in to support him through the crisis.
The Operation TBI Freedom program helped Greg get approved for a new apartment, cover rental expenses and buy groceries, while the Colorado Connections program helped him obtain assistive technology to aid his concentration and memory and explore therapy options. His care coordinator also offered support while he worked to finish his bachelor’s degree.
“Denver Options has helped me tremendously. Without their TBI programs, I wouldn’t have a degree or a job, and I probably wouldn’t still have custody of my kids,” Greg expressed. “They helped me stay in school and feel like I was worthy, that I could be somebody. I still can’t believe all the stuff I’ve accomplished.”

MEET MELANIE
Melanie Milow was on her way to teach a dance class when something happened that changed her life. As she was heading into the building, she slipped on the icy stairs and fell. A part-time professor of dance at the time and a professional performer, Melanie suffered a mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) from the fall.
After her MTBI, getting the services she needed felt like a constant struggle until she found the Colorado Connections program. Now Melanie has taken control of her recovery. Her Colorado Connections care coordinator helped her learn how to identify and access community resources and how to advocate for herself. Melanie credits the Colorado Connections program with jumpstarting her recovery process. “My care coordinator got the ball rolling. She’s been really good help,” she shared.
