Brain injury turns Fort Collins teenager into helmet advocate

Ever since Amanda Miyoshi awoke from a two-month coma, she’s been an advocate of bike-helmet safety.

Miyoshi, 18, was wearing a helmet when she was struck by a Toyota Prius on Sept. 11, 2007, at the intersection of Horsetooth Road and Arctic Fox Drive, while riding her bike to Fort Collins High School.

She suffered a broken pelvis and ribs and sustained a traumatic brain injury despite protection from a bike helmet.
