Denver Options Elected Hometown Hero

Denver Options was recently elected as a “Hometown Hero” by local Girl Scout Troop 2136. Each year during their cookie sales, the troop chooses to honor a local non-profit or other organization for the work they do in their community. By electing an organization as a Hometown Hero, the girls are able to learn more about the valuable work that organization does, and their customers can purchase cookies to donate to that organization. “After voting on the girls’ ideas, we chose Denver Options and the Dumb Friends League this year,” Troop Leader Stacey Webster said.

The girls were curious to learn more about how Denver Options helps people with disabilities and what kind of work the employees do. “We wanted to learn about people who help people with disabilities,” Girl Scout Katie Webster explained. “We never really did anything like this before,” fellow scout Megan Patrick added. The troop first learned about Denver Options through one of their members, Hannah Todd, whose mom, Julie, works at Denver Options.

“We always try to go meet with the people who we’ve elected as our Hometown Hero, so the troop can learn more about them and what they do,” Stacey shared. Katie, Megan and Hannah, as well as Madeline Kling, Cassandra Ranisate and Katelyn Todd were able to volunteer at Denver Options’ Family Forum event on March 10th. The girl scouts helped to greet customers as they arrived, show them to the event room and serve up food and drinks.

The scouts were also able to talk to Denver Options’ employees to learn more about the work that Denver Options does, what disabilities are and what kinds of services people with disabilities need. “The girls really enjoyed being able to volunteer and learn more about where ‘Hannah’s mom’ works,” Julie Todd shared. “It was lots of fun!” Katie exclaimed.
